femen is the second ep from hound scales on fifth wall, the brooklyn imprint he runs with divvorce. a dedication to the powerful women that have sculpted his life, the release sees the artist setting out to create the story of their impact on him by distilling these and other major influences into a techno format. the result is two originals blending amen-style jungle rhythms with collapsed industrial squeals, each with its own sense of beauty clawing upwards towards the surface.on the remix front, japanese producer and 10 label head honcho yuji kondo delivers an incredibly complex, layered interpretation of *a clique of tough women*, while mira and opal tapes affiliate bleaching agent pits the elegiac chords of the original *throated* against a repeated, mangled vocal motif, imbuing the remix with nostalgia while remaining an effective dancefloor instrument.

bristol based the pleasure dome are back with the double a-side -insane/love is dead-. -insane- is a snarling post-punk number that proves this rowdy bunch have it in them. the slobbering vocals and rough backing give an exciting insight into what else you can expect from this band. in the lyrics, the band discusses themes of love, drug addiction and recovery, the struggles with mental health, therapy and issues in society.

there is some serious music coming out of nz right now and has been for a while and these tracks are of no exception. this ep has a very sonically pleasing sound about it all coated with an industrial vibe. from a main room club banger right through to the early morning dark twisted -i have had way too much of a good night- tracks this ep really does push the boundaries and brings something new and refreshing to the table.

nice re edits of two 80s tracks: cans a spectacle is a post krautrock minimal wave breakbeat mover. the flip is an edit of the song elements of vogue by david ian which has stripped out the lyrics but kept that late 80s dance mix feel.
